If you haven’t heard yet, LSU is getting rid of the cartoony tiger logo, Toonces, and bringing back the older round-faced snarling tiger.
Here’s an article explaining the university’s new move: http://goo.gl/1Guk0G
I’m SO happy about this. I never liked Toonces.
Here’s a picture of Toonces for reference:
He wasn’t ferocious enough for me. I love LSU a ridiculous amount and am a HUGE fan. I bleed purple and gold (yes actual purple and gold blood), and in my opinion, we need to be represented by a ferocious-looking mascot. Yes, a tiger is ferocious in and of itself. However, the Toonces tiger was not at all ferocious or scary. If I was an opposing team coming in the stadium for a game and I saw Toonces I would probably laugh at it, not get nervous. Plus, the beautiful round snarling tiger face is already on our helmets, so why not make it uniform throughout the university?
Here’s that beautiful snarling tiger face from days of old:
That’s just my two cents (the only money I have). I’m in full support of LSU’s decision on this one and can’t wait to be able to FINALLY buy merchandise with the REAL tiger on it.
