POLL: AMERICANS SAY TEACHERS ARE UNDERPAID, ABOUT HALF OF REPUBLICANS OPPOSE BOOK BANS (NPR)
A poll of over 1,300 adults discovered that:
- The majority of respondents agreed that they respect teachers and think the profession overall is underpaid
- 19% of teachers surveyed thought they were being paid fairly
- 93% of teachers reported they are asked to work harder for pay that does not reflect the plethora of tasks they complete
- 2/3rds of reponsdents said they would worry about their child’s financial stability if they end up becoming teachers career-wise
- 75% of respondents agreed teachers: “are professionals who should be trusted to make decisions about classroom curriculum.”
- 65% of Republicans, 46% of Independents, and 30% of Democrats worry about the curriculum teachers bring to their children in the classroom

- A Gallup poll which discovered that 71% of Americans find gay or lesbian relationships as “morally acceptable”
- 71% of people in the Gallup poll also approved of gay marriage, which a Pew poll found 61% of respondents also in favor or
- The acceptance of queer relationships has increased overtime, with only 27% of Americans approving of LGBTQ relations in the 1990s
- 80% of Americans support anti-discrimination laws pertaining to LGBTQ rights
- While support for same-sex marriage has risen, the amount of people that agree sex is assigned at birth has risen from 54% to 60% between 2017 and 2022
- This trend jeapordizes the rights of trans people who believe gender is not assigned at birth in the wake of waves of anti-trans legislation introduced in state and federal governing bodies in 2023
