Research led by Adam Taylor from Lancaster University suggests that taking a cold shower to cool down on a hot day may not be as effective as commonly believed. The body’s optimal temperature is around 98.6° F, and when it gets too hot, the brain signals blood vessels and muscles to activate cooling mechanisms. While heat is lost through mechanisms like radiation and sweating, a cold shower can actually prevent the body from dissipating heat efficiently. Additionally, cold water may not effectively remove sweat and sebum from the skin, potentially leading to body odor and skin issues. The study recommends opting for a lukewarm shower or bath on hot days for safer and more effective cooling. (Studyfinds)
