A recent evidence review reveals that using hearing aids significantly improves social engagement and reduces feelings of isolation. The study, based on 65 prior studies involving nearly 6,000 individuals, found that adults with hearing loss who utilized hearing aids or cochlear implants reported increased social interaction and decreased feelings of loneliness. Despite the potential benefits, only 16% of the 30 million U.S. adults who could benefit from hearing aids actually use them. Researchers emphasize that addressing hearing loss through devices may help prevent social disconnection and broader health consequences. The findings were published in JAMA Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, highlighting the importance of hearing health in overall well-being. (Upi)
