President Donald Trump has canceled his scheduled weekend campaign rallies in Kansas and Iowa, choosing instead to connect with voters through telephone rallies ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
The Republican National Committee announced Thursday, October 29, that Trump would participate in a series of telerallies across nearly 20 states. The Associated Press reported that the change comes as Republicans work to maintain control of Congress during the final days of campaigning.
The new approach allows Trump to support multiple Republican candidates without traveling to each location. Additional telephone events could also be announced.
Meanwhile, Trump visited South Carolina on Thursday to campaign for Republican Sen. Darline Graham, who faces Democratic challenger Annie Andrews in a closely watched Senate race.
The visit marked Trump’s second trip to South Carolina in October, highlighting the importance of the contest to Republicans.
With several Senate races drawing national attention, both parties are focusing their final campaign efforts on voter turnout and competitive states.
The midterm elections are scheduled for Tuesday, November 3.
