Donald Trump is again pushing the idea that the United States should acquire Greenland, this time framing it as a national security necessity rather than a symbolic gesture.
According to ABC News, Trump argues that Greenland is critical to U.S. defense because of its Arctic location, expanding military relevance, and rising competition with Russia and China. He points to the existing U.S. presence at Pituffik Space Base and warns that failing to secure long-term control would leave space for rivals.
The renewed argument reportedly includes economic pressure, with Trump raising the possibility of tariffs or other consequences for allies who oppose the idea.
Denmark and Greenland have rejected the proposal, reiterating that Greenland is not for sale and that its future rests with its people. European allies have expressed concern, warning that the approach risks straining NATO unity at a sensitive moment.
