A recent survey reveals that over three-quarters of vacationers strive to immerse themselves in local culture when traveling abroad, with the hope of creating unique experiences. Eating at establishments recommended by residents, shopping at neighborhood grocery stores, and exploring on foot or by bicycle are popular ways for travelers to have a more authentic trip. The poll of 2,000 adults who have traveled internationally found that 47% of those who prefer to “holiday like a local” also enjoy visiting nearby small towns and villages. Others blend in by frequenting community markets, using public transportation instead of tourist services, and renting cars to veer off the beaten path. The research indicates that 43% of travelers are more inclined to live like a local now compared to five years ago, with half crediting social media for helping them discover hidden gems.
